Journey Within Itinerary

OPEN TO ALL WORLDWIDE

Your itinerary will include a historic, spiritual and wellness component. These components will be woven throughout the retreat. On each day, you'll be invited to reflect on important lessons, uncover your spirituality, engage in healthy habits and make changes that are important to you. This will unfold through a gradual, gentle process that is largely determined by your will to change. Our work is to assist you, and we refrain from judgment and force.

DAY 2: CORDOBA

Each day will begin with spiritual awakening with fajr prayer, a light refreshment and personal reflection.

Following this, you’ll have a rest period, breakfast, and then journey into the main city. There, you’ll visit the Great Mosque of Cordoba, the most important and largest of it’s time founded by Caliph Abdulrahman I. The mosque is a tremendous site to behold and witness. Then, you'll walk across the city to experience the Calahorra Tower, a remarkable interactive museum about historic Spain.  For dinner, you’ll journey into the heart of Islam in Spain as you visit a family of local Spanish Muslims on a beautiful farm.

Each day will end with a closing session of group reflections and participants will be asked to do individual reflective work as they retreat for the day.

DAY 3: MADINAT-AZ-ZAHRA, GRANADA

The next morning, you’ll be transported to the archeological site of Madinat-az-Zahra, a city built around a palace by Caliph Abdulrahman III, now half-buried and partly excavated. You’ll lunch there and also visit exhibits and the state-of-the-art Madinat-az-Zahra museum. You’ll reflect on the lessons that Abdulrahman I and Abdulrahman III have taught us.

DAY 4: GRANADA

Next, you’ll be transported to the most beautiful city in Spain, Granada, the last Muslim kingdom, which held out for 250 years before its fall in 1492. You’ll visit the new mosque there, the first purpose-built mosque in Europe in 500 years. You’ll have the opportunity to visit the al Baycin, a former Muslim neighbourhood in Granada before Muslims were exterminated there, now declared a UN World Heritage Site.

DAY 5: GRANADA

Next morning, you’ll be transported up the hills of Granada to the most visited tourist site in all of Spain, the magnificent Alhambra. You’ll journey through the palace and gardens there, witnessing some of the most remarkable Muslim contributions to European civilization, and you’ll reflect on what leads to Muslims’ successes. You’ll lunch at a local restaurant and then journey outside of Granada and along the route of the Nasrids into the Alpujarras Mountains, stopping at a place called Lanjaron. You’ll visit a Muslim escape route along an old Muslim bridge into the Alpujarras and a Muslim fort where some of the remaining Muslims in the Alpujarras in Spain took a final stand. In the evening, you’ll have a fantastic dinner at a local Muslim restaurant, established and run by a revert from Northern Spain who migrated to the Alpujarras in search of fellow Muslims. This will wrap up the tour component of the program and you’ll overnight at the final destination in the Alpujarras where you’ll spend the next three days in retreat.
